Wheelsets

Wheelsets are the interface between the car bogie and the rail track. Wheelsets are transmitting the car loads applied via the wheelset bearings and the driving and breaking torques given by the gearbox and the braking system to the rail track. The wheelset keeps the car on the rail track.

An usual wheelset consists out of two wheels, connected via a shaft. The shaft is supported by two wheel set bearings. Depending on its purpose, the wheelset can be equipped with a motor/gearbox unit, brake discs and several auxiliary equipment like grounding contacts and pulse sensors.

Beside driving / breaking torques and vehicle loads, also the dynamic behaviour of the car and its bogies have to be taken under consideration.
The wheel set is a safety related part of the vehicle and therefor has to be completely reliable and designed for the full live time of the car.

Based on nearly 200 years of experience, Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz GmbH offers an extensive range of wheelsets for all kind of applications. Modern innovative state of the art solutions are the result of consequent R&D activities together with our customers, universities and research institutes.
