Measurement and Diagnosis Systems
Up to now, profile measuring of wheels had to be performed manually. The new laser measurement and diagnosis systems from Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz GmbH offers the possibility to measure the profile surface and the wheel diameter by passing by of the vehicle. Furthermore trend analysis of wear can be done automatically.
By Laser-light intersection, two laser beams are scanning the wheel profile and recording these data in a computer system, while the vehicle is passing by. The complete stationary measurement equipment is placed in two times two boxes located at ground level on both sides of the rail. The boxes are connected to a standard industrial PC, which records the measured data.
By extrapolating the recorded data, a trend analysis can be done in order to find out the correct period for exchanging the wheels or the wheel tyres. Together with transponders on the wheelsets, the transport authority may survey all of their complete fleet just by their computer systems.
The wear data of the wheel are recorded by a stationary system automatically. No manual profile-measurement under the car is necessary. The correct prediction of the date of maintenance will be easier by using the laser measuring device. The customer may plan the purchase of spare parts in a much easier way and thus will save money in the reduction of storing costs. He has got control over the conditions of his complete fleet.
