Low floor running gear systems
Low floor running gear systems are special designed in order to meet the requirements of modern low floor car applications.
Due to the low floor height of modern tram cars and other LRV's, no "usual” wheelsets can be used. Small wheel diameters, driven wheelsets without gearboxes between the wheels or special cranked independent wheel axles are necessary to meet the requirements.
Due to the relatively high car loads on small wheel diameters of the low floor running systems the design process has to be done very carefully in order to achieve the same high level of safety for the car.
Our engineers have developed low floor running gear systems since the first steps of low floor vehicles 15 years ago. The first single steering wheels and independent wheel axles are designed and manufactured by Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz GmbH. Today, the most successful designs of low floor axles are designed and manufactured by Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz GmbH.
