In Oberhausen, Germany, the St. Antony ironworks started operating in 1758. It was the first heavy-industry enterprise in the Ruhr area and at the same time the oldest parent works of GHH. It is today regarded as the cradle of the Ruhr industry. "Gute Hoffnung" in Oberhausen became the business seat of the company. In 1808 the production of wheelsets for coal mine cars started.
In Liege, Belgium, Cockerill started its steel operation in 1834. It will later be known as Valdunes BeluX. In 1839 the first steam engines were built. Concomitantly, in Valenciennes, France, 1840 saw the start-up of the Iron Works, which will come to be part of Usinor-Sacilor group, and then Valdunes. In 1845 industrial series production of wheelsets was taken up.
The forge of Dunkirk, essential part of the whole GHH-Valdunes, produced its first parts in 1912.
Much more recently, TRIsource was incorporated in 1999.
